Marketing Plan For An Online Business
A critical component of any successful online or conventional business is a good marketing plan. A marketing strategy tailored to meet the unique needs of any particular business must be carefully designed. Significant thought and effort are required in the formulation of a good plan for either a product or a service.
A marketing plan can be defined as a delineation of the concept being marketed, the target audience, goals for a specified time period and the actions needed to achieve the goals. Good plans will also include ways to assess how well goal are being met so that plans can be adjusted if needed. A marketing plan may be for a relatively short period of a year, possibly less for a special campaign, or may be long range for five or ten years.
The first step may be creating a mission statement that says who and what you are as a business and what you can offer. A short and distinctive mission statement not only focuses your marketing strategy, but can also be a phrase or sentence that identifies you to potential customers and is memorable.
Then look at what people out there could become your customers in the future. Also define who your existing clients are, and develop a method for maintaining that client base and expanding it. Advertising campaigns geared toward a target audience, methods of increasing web traffic, or utilizing articles and promotions are all ways you could do that. Consider collaborating with other businesses to set up links to each other.
A successful marketing plan will include goals which are as specific as possible. For example, if the marketing plan specifically sets a goal to increase sales by 20% during the next year, the goal is much more likely to be met than if the goal only stated that sales will be increased. It’s also easier to determine if the goal has or has not been met if it is specific as well as to analyze where the company stands compared to the goal.
The last thing to do is develop a plan for actual execution of your goals. Some of the many things that this may entail are as follows: sales training, sending key staff through effective sales and management technique courses, possibly going through these courses yourself, in house training, and development of incentive programs for both employees and customers. Promotions can be run that would offer special items or discounts to help attract new customers also.
A successful business must have well-defined goals as well as a way to determine if the goals are being met. In addition, the business must be willing to change strategies when current ones aren’t working and to continue to develop successful strategies in other directions. It might be good business to hire outside consultants or use special software to analyze performance and determine problems. The way a marketing strategy is planned and executed is crucial to the financial success of any business.
